Top management team constellations and their implications for strategic decision making

Two major themes in the upper echelon decision making literature are efficacy of CEO and composition top management team (TMT). Little research has examined their intersection. This study addresses call to reveal social processes within TMTs, by focusing on CEO-TMT member interaction making. Drawing video ethnographic data two we explore patterns interactions between CEOs TMT members strategic meetings. Through an analysis 20 issue discussions, identify five “constellations”, a level construct capturing core relational dynamics that created through mutual influence during team's discussion issue. We explain how these constellations unfold implications for outcomes then elaborate our findings contribute literatures, as well understanding politics.
