The Atmospheric Aerosol over Western Greece-Six Years of Aerosol Observations at the Navarino Environmental Observatory

The Eastern Mediterranean is a highly populated area with air quality problems. It also where climate change already noticed by higher temperatures and s changing precipitation pattern. anthropogenic aerosol affects health concentrations properties of the atmospheric affect radiation balance clouds. Continuous long-term observations are essential in assessing influence aerosols on health. We present six years from Navarino Environmental Observatory (NEO), new station located at south west tip Peloponnese, Greece. two sites NEO, were evaluated to show local meteorology assess general background possible. was found that originated aged European strongly influenced biomass burning, fossil fuel combustion, industry. When subsiding into boundary layer, sources contributed masses moving south. Mesoscale determined diurnal variation such as mass number means typical sea breeze circulation, giving rise pronounced morning evening peaks pollutant levels. While synoptic scale meteorology, mainly large-scale transport precipitation, seasonality properties.
