Social and Linguistic Speech Prosody
The Estonian quantity system involves three contrastive patterns referred to as short (Q1), long (Q2) and overlong (Q3) quantity degrees. Our previous studies have shown that for L2 learners the distinction between Q2 and Q3 is a difficult task in both production and perception. While Q1 and Q2 structures are always distinguished in the orthography, this is not the case in most Q2 and Q3 words ...

متن کاملAn Automatic Prosody Tagger for Spontaneous Speech
Speech prosody is known to be central in advanced communication technologies. However, despite the advances of theoretical studies in speech prosody, so far, no large scale prosody annotated resources that would facilitate empirical research and the development of empirical computational approaches are available. This is to a large extent due to the fact that current common prosody annotation c...
متن کاملNon-linguistic Influences on Rates of Disfluency in Spontaneous Speech
We investigate how non-linguistic factors influence rates of disfluency in spontaneous speech in a set of task-oriented dialogues (the HCRC Map Task Corpus). The factors we consider are: sex of the speaker; sex of the addressee; conversational role; ability to see the addressee; familiarity with the addressee; and practice at the task. Our analyses examined disfluency rate (the number of disflu...
متن کاملLinguistic Resources for Reconstructing Spontaneous Speech Text
The output of a speech recognition system is not always ideal for subsequent downstream processing, in part because speakers themselves often make mistakes. A system would accomplish speech reconstruction of its spontaneous speech input if its output were to represent, in flawless, fluent, and content-preserving English, the message that the speaker intended to convey. These cleaner speech tran...
