Note on Some Results concerning Fermates Last Theorem

Let us suppose that the equation (1) x* + y + z = 0 is satisfied in integers prime to each other and that p is an odd prime. We shall divide the discussion into two parts. We shall refer to the case where xyz is prime to p as Case I, and to the case where xyz = 0 (mod p) as Case II. The present note will be confined to statements of new results obtained by the writer for both cases, without pro...

On Kummer's Memoir of 1857 Concerning Fermat's Last Theorem.

where x, y and z are integers and X is an odd prime, is deficient and incorrect in several respects. Kummer attempts to prove four theorems which in my first paper were numbered I to IV. I pointed out that the proofs of Theorems I and IV are incomplete, and that the proofs of Theorems I I and I I I are inaccurate. In the present paper additions to and modifications of Kummer's arguments will be...

Veriied Proofs concerning Functional Programs

In this paper the development of automatically veriied proofs for functional programs is examined. This examination is made on the basis of a small functional program written in the functional language clean. For this program a proof is constructed in the proof system coq. This proof is automatically veriied by coq. The functional program presented contains two function-constructors for the cla...

Some Results on Baer's Theorem

Baer has shown that, for a group G, finiteness of G=Zi(G) implies finiteness of ɣi+1(G). In this paper we will show that the converse is true provided that G=Zi(G) is finitely generated. In particular, when G is a finite nilpotent group we show that |G=Zi(G)| divides |ɣi+1(G)|d′ i(G), where d′i(G) =(d( G /Zi(G)))i.

Several Proofs of Ihara's Theorem

We give three proofs that the reciprocal of Ihara's zeta function can be expressed as a simple polynomial times a determinant involving the adjacency matrix of the graph. The rst proof, for regular graphs, is based on representing radial symmetric eigenfunctions on regular trees in terms of certain polynomials. The second proof, also for regular graphs, is a consequence of the fact that the res...
