STABLITY OF TEMPORARILY PLACED LARGE SANDBAGS AGAINST WAVES

چکیده
In Japan, Typhoon No. 15 (Faxai) hit the Kanto region on September 5, 2019, causing massive flooding damage due to collapse of seawalls (Suzuki et al., 2020). Fukuura district Yokohama City, parapet seawall collapsed and large overtopping waves inundated an area 0.75 km inland from seawall, resulting in a flooded 0.8 km2. Since typhoon season lasts until November, there was possibility that typhoons would continue after that. Therefore, with collapsed, major again. Under such conditions, temporary measures were necessary. sandbags are commonly installed cases. However, many unknowns regarding stability against waves. Even if they installed, likely be scattered by this study, emergency recovery subsequent responses 19 examined. Furthermore, examined through hydraulic experiments.

Numerical Stablity of Path Tracing in Polyhedral Homotopy Continuation Methods
The reliability of polyhedral homotopy continuation methods for solving a polynomial system becomes increasingly important as the dimension of the polynomial system increases. High powers of the homotopy continuation parameter t and ill-conditioned Jacobian matrices encountered in tracing of homotopy paths affect the numerical stability. We present modified homotopy functions with a new homotop...
متن کاملInflation with Large Gravitational Waves
It is well known that in manifestly Lorentz invariant theories with nontrivial kinetic terms, perturbations around some classical backgrounds can travel faster than light. These exotic " supersonic " models may have interesting consequences for cosmology and astrophysics. In particular, one can show 1 that in such theories the contribution of the gravitational waves to the CMB fluctuations can ...
متن کاملSeismic Behavior of 2D Semi-Sine Shaped Hills against Vertically Propagating Incident Waves
This paper presents the preliminary results of an extensive parametric study on seismic response of two-dimensional semi-sine shaped hills to vertically propagating incident P- and SV-waves. Clear perspectives of the induced diffraction and amplification patterns are given by investigation of time-domain and frequency-domain responses. It is shown that site geometry, wave characteristics , and ...
متن کاملInstability of large solitary water waves
We consider the linearized instability of 2D irrotational solitary water waves. The maxima of energy and the travel speed of solitary waves are not obtained at the highest wave, which has the 120 degree angle at the crest. Under the assumption of non-existence of secondary bifurcation which is con rmed numerically, we prove linear instability of solitary waves which are higher than the wave of ...
متن کاملDamping of large-amplitude solitary waves
Soliton damping in weakly dissipative media has been studied for several decades, usually using the asymptotic theory of the slowly-varying solitary wave solution of the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation. Damping then occurs according to the energy balance equation, and a shelf is generated behind the soliton. Various examples of this process have been given by Ott & Sudan (1970) Pelinovsky (197...
