SOME ANTI-NUTRITIONAL COMPONENTS IN NIGERIA COTTONSEED AND COTTONSEED MEALS

Cottonseed of three Nigerian commercial varieties cotton, locational composite seed cotton and cottonseed meals were investigated with respect to their content gossypol (free total), tannins, phytin phosphorus. Free total ranged from 1.14 1.34% 1.21 1.59%, respectively in kernels, 0.028 0.064% 0.413 0.831%, meals. Bates: Cottonseed Protein
The most serious feature of worldwide mal nutrition is the lack of adequate protein in quan tity or quality at a reasonable price in developing countries. The development of regional vegetable protein mixtures, such as Incaparina, is a prom ising and successful approach. Cottonseed is a logical inexpensive source of valuable protein, limited mainly by its free gossypol content and lysine destru...
متن کاملCottonseed meal | Feedipedia
Mechanical extraction: this traditional method of cottonseed oil extraction uses a circular mortar (called ghani in India, Achaya, 1993) or more advanced technology, such as a hydraulic press or a screw press (expeller). The cotton seeds may be dehulled, cracked, dried or heated before being fed to the press. The resulting cake is dried, ground and then processed into large pellets (Ash, 1992)....
متن کاملThe Effects of Xylose Treatment on Rumen Degradability and Nutrient Digestibility of Soybean and Cottonseed Meals
Two trials were conducted to evaluate the effect of xylose treatment on rumen degradability characteristics of DM, OM and CP and in vivo digestibility of DM, OM, CP and crude fiber (CF) of soybean meal (SBM) and cottonseed meal (CSM). In Trial 1, three ruminally cannulated Merino rams were used. Xylose treatments at both levels, 0.5 and 1%, decreased effective degradability of DM, OM and CP of ...

Plasma and tissue concentrations of total, (+)- and (-)-gossypol were determined in broilers fed cottonseed meals (CSM) from eight oil mills (five expander solvent, two expeller, and one direct solvent). Free gossypol in the meals ranged from 0.033 to 0.180%, and total gossypol ranged from 0.974 to 1.459%. The (+)-enantiomer of gossypol varied from 53.8 to 61.3% of total gossypol. Eight CSM die...
متن کاملMetabolisable Energy, In situ Rumen Degradation and In vitro Fermentation Characteristics of Linted Cottonseed Hulls, Delinted Cottonseed Hulls and Cottonseed Linter Residue
Dietary supplementation with conventional linted cottonseed hulls (LCSH) is a common practice in livestock production all over the world. However, supplementation with mechanically delinted cottonseed hulls (DCSH) and cottonseed linter residue (CLR) is uncommon. Cottonseed by-products, including LCSH, DCSH and CLR, were assessed by chemical analysis, an in situ nylon bag technique, an in vitro ...
