Sinonasal Mucormycosis in a post Covid patient - first case in Sri Lanka

The Covid 19 infection which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) found to be associated with a wide range of bacterial and fungal co-infections. We report the first post COVID-19 Sino-orbital Mucormycosis in patient diabetes mellitus Sri Lanka. A 57 years old female history long standing uncontrolled presented left facial pain swelling. She has had positive reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for SARS-CoV-2 one month back. On Rigid nasal endoscopy (RNE) blackish crusting was noted on septum. Contrast enhanced CT scan (CECT) demonstrated fat stranding premaxillary, infratemporal pterygopalatine regions. Presence mucormycosis confirmed from biopsies following functional endoscopic sinus procedure. Patient treated IV liposomal amphotericin B local packs amphotericin. Sinonasal after completion 5g Liposomal were negative asymptomatic discharged 27 days Amphotericin. Conclusion: good prognosis can achieved an early diagnosis debridement along prompt conservative treatment Amphotericin B.
