Infra-Red Plasmonic Sensors
Plasmonic sensors exploiting the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of noble metal nanoparticles are common in the visual spectrum. However, bio-sensors near the infra-red (NIR) windows (600–900 nm and 1000–1400 nm) are of interest, as in these regions the absorption coefficients of water, melanin deoxyglobin, and hemoglobin are all low. The first part of this paper reviews the work tha...
متن کاملValley splitting theory of SiGe/Si/SiGe quantum wells
We present an effective mass theory for SiGe/Si/SiGe quantum wells, with an emphasis on calculating the valley splitting. The theory introduces a valley coupling parameter vv which encapsulates the physics of the quantum well interface. The new effective mass parameter is computed by means of a tight binding theory. The resulting formalism provides rather simple analytical results for several g...

متن کاملInfra-red Tunneling Absorption in Semiconductor Double Quantum Wells in Tilted Magnetic Fields
JAM 0 6 1997 ABSTRACT C D A F ~ 6 /xQ--SO 0 ST I Using a linear response theory, interwell-tunneling absorption is calculated in a double-quanturn-well structure with a wide center barrier in tilted magnetic fields. Tunneling absorption of infra-red photons occurs between the ground sublevels of the two quantum wells, with an energy difference that is tunable. In zero magnetic field, the absorp...
متن کاملSterilization of syringes by infra-red radiation.
more, syringes cannot be sterilized assembled or lubricated, and the syringe containers, whether multiple or single, must be so constructed that steam can freely penetrate to all surfaces of the syringe (Stewart, 1957; Darmady and Hughes, 1955). After sterilization a separate process is necessary to seal the containers before distribution to the user. Although syringes in their containers can b...
