Barnyard Millet as a Substitute of Rice in Preparation of khichdi for Diabetics
Diabetes is among one of the most prevalent chronic disease where diet has a major role to play. Khichdi is a nutritious traditional food most commonly consumed in India. Khichdi contains goodness of both cereal and pulses. Cereal proteins are generally deficient in lysine and pulses (legumes) contain low amount of methionine. However, when both cereals and pulses (legumes) are present in the d...
متن کاملConstruction and use of cDNA arrays in studying barley seed development and foxtail millet salt tolerance
Single-pass sequencing of randomly chosen cDNA clones is currently the most efficient method for the discovery of many genes from cereals with large genomes. Management and analysis of the enormous amount of low-quality sequence data requires great care and powerful computational methods for annotation. In order to study the network of gene expression underlying seed development during the pre-...
متن کاملAntifeedants of Indian barnyard millet, Echinochloa frumentacea link, against brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål).
Eight compounds isolated from Indian barnyard millet have been identified as L-malic acid, trans-aconitic acid, (+)-isocitric acid, 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid, 4-O-caffeoylquinic acid, isocarlinoside, 2"-O-rhamnosylisoorientin, and 7-O-(2"-O-glucuronosyl)glucuronosyltricin, respectively. These compounds showed high antifeeding activity against brown planthopper only when they were combined.
متن کاملchanges in seed quality during seed development and maturation in four cultivars sesame (sesamum indicum l.)
in order to achieve high quality seeds, producers must be able to estimate the accurate harvest maturity time seeds. the objective of this study was to investigate changes in seed quality during seed development and maturation in the two cultivars native of the sari and gorgan and two cultivars modified of the darab14 and yellowhite. a field experiment was conducted in during 2009 at gorgan uni...
متن کاملKin Selection and Conflict in Seed Maturation
There are four genetically distinct components in the developing seeds of flowering plants: maternal sporophyte, gametophyte, endosperm, and embryo. Each component can potentially influence the quantity or quality of nutrients provided to the embryo of its seed, thereby reducing the amount available to embryos in other seeds of that plant. The theory of kin selection predicts that each componen...
