چکیده

Abstract Native to the Ponto-Caspian region, benthic round goby ( Neogobius melanostomus ) has invaded several European inland waterbodies as well North American Great Lakes and Baltic Sea. The species is capable of reaching very high densities in ecosystems, with not only evidence for significant food-web effects on native biota habitats, but also negative implications coastal fishers. Although generally considered a species, it been shown that migrate deeper areas other lakes during cold season. Such seasonal movements may create new spatio-temporal ecosystem consequences systems. To seek depth distribution marine we compiled all available catch data Sea since its invasion until 2017. We furthermore related depths at capture each season ambient thermal environment. spend autumn winter significantly offshore compared spring summer months; few fish were captured < 25 m these colder months. Similarly, summer, > m. conditions which caught varied between seasons, being average 18.3 °C dropping low 3.8 Overall, sought within highest possible temperatures. spatial substantially overlaps main preferred prey (mussels) competitor food (flatfish), moderately predatory (perch), indicating thereby complex trophic interactions associated this invasion. Further investigations should aim quantifying web coupling different habitats migrations goby, both terms competitor, predator prey.

Acoustic communication modalities of the round goby ( Neogobius melanostomus)

Acoustic communication is essential to survival for many fish species, however it is often understudied. This thesis investigates two areas of acoustic communication in the round goby (Neogobius melanostomus). These fish have no accessory hearing structures, and theory would predict they would be unable to localize sound sources, however it has been shown that round gobies can localize conspeci...

Indications of competition between non-indigenous round goby and native flounder in the Baltic Sea

The Ponto-Caspian round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) was introduced to the Gulf of Gdańsk, southern Baltic Sea, in the late 1980s, and it has now become the dominant demersal fish species in shallow water. This study aimed to assess diet preferences and the degree of diet overlap between the round goby and the native flounder (Platichthys flesus). Results from time-series of stomach contents a...

Twenty years of invasion: a review of round goby Neogobius melanostomus biology, spread and ecological implications.

The round goby Neogobius melanostomus is one of the most wide-ranging invasive fish on earth, with substantial introduced populations within the Laurentian Great Lakes watershed, the Baltic Sea and several major European rivers. Rapid expansion and deleterious ecosystem effects have motivated extensive research on this species; here this research is synthesized. Maps of the global distribution ...

Morphology and histochemistry of the peripheral olfactory organ in the round goby, Neogobius melanostomus (Teleostei: Gobiidae).

This first comprehensive study of the peripheral olfactory organ from a representative of the large and economically important order of teleost fishes, the Perciformes, shows a compact structure with olfactory sensory neurons distributed widely throughout the olfactory chamber. The spatial organization of the nasal cavity in the bottom-dwelling round goby (Gobiidae, Neogobius melanostomus) was ...

Comparative Study of Electrophoretic Characteristics of Serum Albumin of round Goby Neogobius Melanostomus from Black Sea and Azov Sea

Concentration and electrophoretic properties of blood serum albumin of the round goby Neogobius melanostomus caught in Black Sea and Azov Sea were studied in relation to age, sex, maturation stage and season. Electrophoretic mobility of serum albumin in Black Sea fish increased with age, while in Azov Sea goby it varied less. No differences were observed in albumin characteristics between femal...
