Scaffolded Fieldwork Research Projects: An Australian Approach to Study Abroad

Research into university study abroad programs suggests that while students may have some experience of local culture(s) and practices, they be achieving no more than a superficial understanding the host society. Alternatives to standard models are thus essential encourage engage deeply with on argues for additional interventions provision close supervision mentoring students. Given these arguments, this paper examines scaffolded assessment model, designed at an Australian in international studies program established 26 years ago, intended enhance their learning during compulsory year abroad. Through ongoing academic design fieldwork research project aspects society, we argue, potential develop key skills such as transcultural awareness, engagement capacity working diversity.
