Road extraction through digital processing and visual interpretation of satellite images

Road extraction plays an important role in urban planning and city extension issues, as well road monitoring, traffic management map updating. Technological advances may offer a wealth of data techniques that could be implemented delineation extraction, change detection projects. Among the various methods have been developed for this purpose, remote sensing especially digital processing satellite contribute significantly direction. This paper presents study network which concerns Kastoria located northwestern Greece its surrounding area. The special character is closely related to city’s cultural value depicted structure. Satellite images spatial resolutions were employed processing. Landsat 8 imagery was used order detect delineate linear features through enhancement, while 5 changes over time visual interpretation. Semi-automatic applied SPOTmaps products extract network, object-oriented approach QuickBird combine components with spectral properties. Through semi-automatic digitization workflows, export studied part vector format achieved, thus facilitating process reducing required time. resulted are efficient combined other maintenance extension, touristic purposes.
