Real vs. Virtual City: Planning Issues in a Discontinuous Urban Area in Budapest’s Inner City

<p>The 21st century has brought fundamental changes in the development of cities, with spread ICT and rise digitalization. The new technologies are increasingly making their mark on urban planning policy as well. question how contemporary is adapting to challenges particularly relevant neighborhoods built previous centuries decades by traditional methods now confronted public environmental demands. Despite bad reputation Budapest’s 8th district, Józsefváros, based socio-economic problems it continuously faced past, neighborhood become one most dynamically developing areas last decade. From a point view, an exciting area district Szigony Street its wider surroundings due strongly fragmented, heterogeneous fabric. Nevertheless, only high-rise mass housing estate historic inner city 1960s 1970s located there. Our research used complex methodology (document, content database analysis, fieldwork, surveys professionals, interviews) explore history area’s development. Ultimately, aim was identify important outcomes consequences design whether modern digital can make meaningful contribution neighborhood. results show that Budapest still essentially top-down approaches. Digitalization role play primarily visualization contextualization but digitalizing alone will not solve past mistakes affect fabric neighborhood.</p>
