Protozoa and Nematodes Infecting Odontophrynus occidentalis (Anura, Odontophrynidae) from the Monte Desert of Argentina

The parasitofauna of amphibians from the province San Juan has been studied very little. In particular, only one helminthological study reported on Odontophrynus occidentalis (Berg, 1896). aim present was to describe endoparasites O. occidentalis, including protozoa and nematodes. Twenty-one adults (13 males 8 females) were analysed for parasites. Collected parasites examined using standard parasitological techniques. Parasitological descriptors such as prevalence mean intensity calculated. Specimens belonging phyla Ciliophora Nematoda found in intestinal tract. Protozoa genus Nyctotheroides two nematode species, Aplectana hylambatis Falcaustra sanjuanensis, identified. This provides new information parasitic infection Juan. We emphasize need increase knowledge amphibian parasitofauna, mainly related these vertebrates, since literature presents few reports.
