Predicting the dynamics of enteric methane emissions based on intake kinetic patterns in dairy cows fed diets containing either wheat or corn

چکیده

The production of methane by the rumen microbiota is a complex biological process. When tackling modelling production, modeller decides what complexity needed to answer scientific question for which model intended. Such choice results in diversity possible models spanning both empirical and mechanistic approaches. Within framework precision livestock farming, simple dynamic offer great advantages integrating online data ( e.g. , feed intake) predict individual emissions from cattle. Accordingly, we previously developed, with satisfactory results, that uses DM intake kinetics as single predictor finishing beef steers. objective present work was assess capability developed pattern dairy cows fed diet containing either wheat grain or corn grain. Enteric and manure-derived methane and nitrogen emissions as well as metabolic energy losses in cows fed balanced diets based on maize, barley or grass hay.

Ruminant husbandry constitutes the most important source of anthropogenic methane (CH4). In addition to enteric (animal-derived) CH4, excreta are another source of CH4, especially when stored anaerobically. Increasing the proportion of dietary concentrate is often considered as the primary CH4 mitigation option. However, it is unclear whether this is still valid when diets to be compared are en...

Effects of soybean meal or canola meal on milk production and methane emissions in lactating dairy cows fed grass silage-based diets.

This study evaluated the effects of soybean meal (SBM) and heat-moisture-treated canola meal (TCM) on milk production and methane emissions in dairy cows fed grass silage-based diets. Twenty-eight Swedish Red cows were used in a cyclic change-over experiment with 4 periods of 21 d and with treatments in 2 × 4 factorial arrangement (however, the control diet without supplementary protein was not...

Predicting Methane Production in Dairy Cows

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, to which enteric fermentation from ruminants contributes significantly. Reliable and accurate predictions of methane (CH4) production from dairy cows would be of interest to develop mitigation strategies and for national inventories. Thus, the overall aim of this thesis was to predict CH4 production in dairy cows by modelling approaches. Predicted in vivo CH4...

Methane production, digestion, ruminal fermentation, nitrogen balance, and milk production of cows fed corn silage- or barley silage-based diets.

This study evaluated the effects of replacing barley silage (BS) with corn silage (CS) in dairy cow diets on enteric CH4 emissions, ruminal fermentation characteristics, digestion, milk production, and N balance. Nine ruminally cannulated lactating cows were used in a replicated 3 × 3 Latin square design (32-d period) and fed (ad libitum) a total mixed ration (TMR; forage:concentrate ratio 60:4...

Effect of molasses supplementation on the production of lactating dairy cows fed diets based on alfalfa and corn silage.

Adding sugar to the diet has been reported to improve production in dairy cows. In each of 2 trials, 48 lactating Holsteins (8 with ruminal cannulas) were fed covariate diets for 2 wk, blocked by days in milk into 12 groups of 4, and then randomly assigned to diets based on alfalfa silage containing 4 levels of dried molasses (trial 1) or liquid molasses (trial 2). In both studies, production d...
