Potential Herbal Medicine for Alopecia Areata Treatment : A Systematic Review

Alopecia areata is a common form of immune-mediated alopecia in which autoimmune attack the hair follicles causes loss without scarring, characterized by appearance round, hairless areas on scalp. Current treatments including glucocorticoids (topical, intralesional, and systemic), minoxidil, anthralin, other immunosuppressive agents, contact immunotherapy have variable efficacy for severe disease. Other include methotrexate (immune suppressants) cyclosporine (calcineurin inhibitors) but their benefit may be too small inconsistent to justify use given possible side effects. Currently there are only 2 drugs approved Food Drug Administration as drugs, namely Minoxidil Finasteride. Although condition dermatological practice, management this disease can challenging because degree severity susceptibility treatment resistance that patients experience. This study aims present potential herbal medicine areata. literature review uses secondary data research journals related topic through PubMed, Google Scholar Sciencedirect period 5 years from 2018 2022. Herbal has an alternative cases improve patient recovery.
