چکیده
To compare the responses of two open-pollinated tomato varieties to germination parameters and shoot growth, seeds varieties, Mersa Tekeze-1 were given osmopriming treatments with potassium nitrate (KNO3) in a lab setting. A completely randomized design four replications was used. The analysis variance revealed that both responded differently priming concentrations significantly ( P < 0.05 ) for almost all measured traits. Potassium also affected final percent (G%) mean daily id="M2"> index (GI) length (SL) id="M3"> 0.001 ). However, KNO3 did not have significant effect on time 50% (T50) (MGT). Variety showed better performance SL than Tekeze-1; while had shorter days MGT reached T50 faster variety. at 0.5% 1.5% results control 1% KNO3. interaction variety resulted highest SL, but concentration, indicating different applied rate. This study confirmed possibility enhancing seed through externally agents such as Despite being preliminary finding, this demonstrated cultivars differ how they react priming, more research, using other agents, is needed.

Extended Abstract Introduction: Today, seed priming is widely used to improve seed germination in a wide range of plant species. As a result of seed pre-treatment, several molecular and biochemical changes occur, including increased macromolecule synthesis, enzyme activity and formation of different metabolites. Enzymatic and metabolic activities, synthesis of proteins in quantitative and qual...
متن کاملTomato Fruit (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill) Maturity Study Based on Sensorial Analysis and Instrumented Color Determination
Table tomatoes (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill) have been tested during maturation process by carrying color determination by means of instruments as well as trough sensorial analysis, aiming to stablish data correlation between both methods. Recent picked testing fruits were selected by taking into account an uniform physiological maturation considered adequate for harvesting. Fruits were presen...

Optimization of Growth Regulators for Shoot Induction and Regeneration of Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.)
Until now numbers of efforts have been made to deduce the optimized conditions for the in vitro regeneration of tomato plant. The optimized conditions deduced are contradictory to each other and to validate the optimum conditions the present investigation was carried out which directs the use of 1.5 mg/l IAA + 1.5 mg/l Zeatin with full strength Murashige and Skoog’s (MS) medium for the developm...
متن کاملCloning, Transformation and Expression of Proinsulin Gene in Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.)
BACKGROUND Plants are among promising and suitable platform systems for production of recombinant biopharmaceutical proteins due to several features such as safety, no need for fermentation, inexpensive investment, and fast and easy scale-up. Human insulin is one of the most widely used medicines in the world. Up to now different expression systems including Escherichia coli, yeast and CHO have...
