چکیده
We present a case of gastric varices successfully treated with modified plug-assisted retrograde transvenous obliteration. A 45-year-old male patient had isolated fundal caused by alcoholic cirrhosis. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed that the were drained mainly via gastro-renal shunt. The obliteration using an IMPEDE vascular plug coil-assisted obliteration-II procedure. There no complications during procedure, and endoscopic examination 3 months after procedure revealed disappeared. To our knowledge, this is first report on application newly designed to avoid migration sclerosant.

Vascular Plug-Assisted Retrograde Transvenous Obliteration of Portosystemic Shunts for Refractory Hepatic Encephalopathy: A Case Report
While balloon-assisted retrograde transvenous obliteration (BRTO) has been used for two decades in Asia for the management of gastric variceal bleeding, it is still an emerging therapy elsewhere. Given the shunt closure brought about by the procedure, BRTO has also been used for the management of portosystemic encephalopathy with promising results. Modified versions of BRTO have been developed,...

Intervention treatment such as balloon retrograde or anterograde transvenous obliteration has been used for management of refractory hepatic encephalopathy as well as gastric variceal bleeding. Recently, plug-assisted retrograde transvenous obliteration without a help of balloon was newly developed to treat these patients. Here, we report three cases suffering refractory hepatic encephalopathy ...
