چکیده
The geographic and climatic conditions of Florida make the state vulnerable to damaging exotic organisms. This risk is compounded by intense trade agricultural products arriving through numerous ports entry in tourism industry, with at least 115 million visitors annually. For over 100 years, Department Agriculture Consumer Services' Division Plant Industry (FDACS-DPI), known as State Board from 1915-1960, has implemented regulatory programs protect Florida's diverse industries organisms (Tissot et al., 1954). Data-Quality Measures for Stakeholder- Implemented Watershed-Monitoring Programs
Community-based watershed groups, many of which collect environmental data, have steadily increased in number over the last decade. The data generated by these programs are often underutilized due to uncertainty in the quality of data produced. The incorporation of data-quality measures into stakeholder monitoring programs lends statistical validity to data. Data-quality measures are divided in...
متن کاملA Model for Probabilistic Assessment of Phytosanitary Risk Reduction Measures
The World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (the “SPS Agreement”) seeks to ensure that SPS measures do not result in unnecessary barriers to international trade by requiring that countries establish or maintain SPS measures on the basis of scientific risk assessment (11). Given the downward pressure on international trade tariffs and agricultural subsidie...
متن کاملPhytosanitary Irradiation
Phytosanitary treatments disinfest traded commodities of potential quarantine pests. Phytosanitary irradiation (PI) treatments use ionizing radiation to accomplish this, and, since their international commercial debut in 2004, the use of this technology has increased by ~10% annually. Generic PI treatments (one dose is used for a group of pests and/or commodities, although not all have been tes...

In the food safety arena, a clear role for government is to adopt sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures to protect human, animal, and plant life or health. Relative to developing countries, developed countries tend to adopt more stringent food safety standards and regulations with a broader scope and to rely increasingly on certification and traceability. The additional costs of compliance ...
