Particularities of the MELAS syndrome in acute appendicitis

چکیده
Resumen El síndrome MELAS se trata de un trastorno mitocondrial poco común caracterizado por la presencia miopatía mitocondrial, encefalopatía, acidosis láctica y episodios neurológicos similares a accidentes cerebrovasculares. Sus manifestaciones clínicas aparecen predominantemente en órganos alto consumo metabólico si bien ocasiones pueden presentar síntomas gastroenterológicos. Son escasos los casos documentados cirugías abdominales urgentes, ante patologías agudas como puede tratarse una apendicitis aguda, pacientes con este deben tener cuenta serie factores clínicos, nutricionales, anestésicos postoperatorios el objetivo evitar exacerbación su enfermedad basal disminuir morbilidad.

Kartagener's syndrome is a combination of situs inversus totalis, sinusitis and bronchiectasis. Left sided appendicitis can present with problems in diagnosis and during surgery. We present here a case of Kartagener's syndrome and left sided appendicitis successfully managed in a peripheral hospital in Bahawalnagar, Pakistan.
