Outcomes of Autologous Reconstruction in Comparison with Alloplastic in Microtia Patients

Background: Microtia is a congenital abnormality of the auricle. One important comprehensive management microtia ear reconstruction. Reconstruction using an auricle framework from autologous material originating rib cartilages still gold standard. However, currently, some surgeons prefer alloplastic materials which are claimed to reduce morbidity and can be performed at younger age. Objective: Report case patient who underwent reconstruction followed by literature search comparing outcomes Case: An 11-year-old with grade 3 unilateral surgery cartilages. Later he complained pain grafting site, more than surgical wound in ear. Methods: A based on clinical question was done PubMed, EBSCOhost, Cochrane Library, hand searching. Results: Three relevant articles that fit were included. Autologous causes fewer complications, while better aesthetically. Further research needed regarding quality life. Conclusion: Auricular remains superior choice. Alloplastic alternative choice aesthetic results but greater complication risk.
