Occasional Tillage in a Wheat-Sorghum-Fallow Rotation

چکیده

Beginning in 2012, research was conducted Garden City and Tribune, KS, to determine the effect of a single tillage operation every 3 years on grain yields wheat-sorghum- fallow (WSF) rotation. Grain wheat sorghum were generally not affected by WSF yield varied greatly year from 2014 2020. Wheat ranged across mid-20s 90 bu/a at Tribune less than 10 100 City. 40 greater 140 bu/a, depending upon location. In 2019 when implemented post-wheat harvest 2016. There no other or locations where significantly operation. However, averaged 7-year period, after reduced compared complete no-till (NT) system. At City, different, but tended be following one-time prior wheat. This indicates that if is needed control troublesome weeds, during planting may better harvest. study supports hypothesis herbicide-resistant weed populations are high enough cause reductions, then might improve yields.

Changes in soil microbial community structure with tillage under long-term wheat-fallow management

Fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) were used to `®ngerprint' soil microbial communities that evolved during 25 years of wheat-fallow cropping following native mixed prairie sod at Sidney, Nebraska, USA. Total ester-linked FAMEs (EL-FAMEs) and phospholipid-linked FAMEs (PL-FAMEs) were compared for their ability to discriminate between plots remaining in sod and those cropped to wheat or left fallo...

Residue management and tillage effects on soil-water storage and grain yield of dryland wheat and sorghum for a clay loam in Texas

Dryland wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) are often grown using a wheat–sorghum-fallow (WSF) crop rotation on the semiarid North American Great Plains. Precipitation stored during fallow as soil water is crucial to the success of the WSF rotation. Stubble mulch-tillage (SM) and no-tillage (NT) residue management practices reduce evaporation, but the sp...

Tillage effects on energy use and greenhouse gas emission in wheat-cotton rotation

Crop production process utilizes input energy and produces some biomass energy as output.  During this process, greenhouse gases (GHGs) are also emitted which can make environmental risks. In this study, input and output energies, energy indices, and GHG emissions arising from inputs were estimated for wheat-cotton rotation under different tillage practices in Fars province. The study was condu...

Tillage Mulch Depth Effects during Fallow on Wheat Production and Wind Erosion Control Factors

Blowing dust from summer fallow is a major soil loss and air quality concern in winter wheat (Triricum aesrivum L.) production areas of the inland Pacific Northwest (PNW). The objective of our 3-yr onfarm study in a 286-mm precipitation zone in eastern Washington was to determine the effects of tillage mulch depth during fallow on surface soil roughness, residue retention, seed-zone water stora...
