Nonlinear Control in Automotive Engine Applications
Nonlinear control theory has undergone a rapid development in the past decade. Some of these results and ideas have found application in the field of automotive powertrain control where the models that are used are typically multi-input, multi-output, and nonlinear. In this paper, we illustrate a particular application where the disturbance decoupling paradigm is used to design a controller tha...
متن کاملNonlinear Control of a Planar Magnetic Levitation System
In this paper, we derive the model of a three-magnet positioning device and design a nonlinear control that stabilizes it. The motivation of this work is to develop tools that may have practical significance to, e.g., photolithography and to create a challenging nonlinear control problem which can be used to test novel nonlinear control approaches. The nonlinear controller designed here transfo...
متن کاملEnergy Harvesting from the Nonlinear Oscillations of Magnetic Levitation
This paper investigates the design and analysis of a novel energy harvesting device that uses magnetic levitation to produce an oscillator with a tunable resonance. The governing equations for the mechanical and electrical domains are derived to show the designed system reduces to the form of a Duffing oscillator under both static and dynamic loads. Thus, nonlinear analyses are required to inve...
متن کاملModeling and nonlinear control of magnetic levitation systems
In this paper, we propose a nonlinear model for magnetic levitation systems which is validated with experimental measurements. Using this model, a nonlinear control law based on differential geometry is firstly synthesized. Then, its real-time implementation is developed. In order to highlight the performance of the proposed control law, experimental results are given.
متن کاملNonlinear Control Design for a Magnetic Levitation System
This thesis presents the design of two magnetically levitated high precision positioning systems based on permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (PMLSMs). Magnetic levitation based on PMLSMs requires the motors to operate with a variable airgap length but previous research in the field has studied mainly motors fastened by bearings; therefore, this work first models a motor with free normal...
