Revision of the Neotropical genus Cheiromyia Dyte (Diptera: Dolichopodidae)
The Neotropical dolichopodine genus Cheiromyia is revised. The limits of the genus are redefined to include only those species with one or more elongate projections on the male postpedicel. Cheiromyia maculipennis (Van Duzee) is transferred to Paraclius Loew comb. nov. Cheiromyia is now known from Costa Rica south to Bolivia and the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, and includes the following five spe...

متن کاملLead tolerance of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes Mart. - Pontederiaceae) as defined by anatomical and physiological traits.
This study aimed at verifying the lead tolerance of water hyacinth and at looking at consequent anatomical and physiological modifications. Water hyacinth plants were grown on nutrient solutions with five different lead concentrations: 0.00, 0.50, 1.00, 2.00 and 4.00 mg L-1 by 20 days. Photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance and the Ci/Ca rate were measured at the end of 15 days of ...
متن کاملNew species of Heteropsilopus and Amblypsilopus from China (Diptera: Dolichopodidae)
Heteropsilopus, previously believed to be restricted to southern Australia, south-western India and Sri Lanka, is reported from China for the first time. Two species, Heteropsilopus yunnanensis sp. nov. and Amblypsilopus curvus sp. nov., are described as new to science. The latter belongs to the Amblypsilopus flaviappendiculatus group.
متن کاملJumping from the surface of water by the long-legged fly Hydrophorus (Diptera, Dolichopodidae).
The fly Hydrophorus alboflorens (4 mm long, 4.7 mg mass) moves around upon and jumps from water without its tarsi penetrating the surface. All six tarsi have a surface area of 1.3 mm(-2) in contact with the water, but they did not dimple its surface when standing. Jumping was propelled by depression of the trochantera of both hind and middle legs, which are 40% longer than the front legs and 17...
