Stereoselectivity in electron-transfer reactions in chiral media.
The oxidation of [Co(edta)](2-) by [IrCl(6)](2-) proceeds by both inner-sphere and outer-sphere electron-transfer pathways. In the presence of added [Co(en)(3)](3+), the outer-sphere pathway is enhanced. When optically active [Co(en)(3)](3+) is used, the [Co(edta)](-) formed is optically active, reflecting a 1.5% DeltaLambda selectivity. It is proposed that the selectivity arises from preferent...
متن کاملHigh stereoselectivity on low temperature Diels-Alder reactions
We have found that some of the usually poor dienophiles (2-cycloenones) can undergo Diels-Alder reaction at -78 degrees C with unusually high stereoselectivity in the presence of niobium pentachloride as a Lewis acid catalyst. A remarkable difference in reaction rates for unsubstituted and alpha- or beta-methyl substituted 2-cycloenones was also observed.
متن کاملReactive resonances: From A + BC to polyatomic reactions
This talk reports on recent advances in the experimental realization of reactive resonance phenomenon. The term of reactive (or quantum dynamical) resonance in this context refers to a transiently formed metastable species produced while the chemical reaction is occurring. It is a quasibound, trapped (or compound) state resonance and of Feshbach type [1,2]. I will start with a three-atom reacti...
متن کاملVisualization of chemical reaction dynamics: Toward understanding complex polyatomic reactions
Polyatomic molecules have several electronic states that have similar energies. Consequently, their chemical dynamics often involve nonadiabatic transitions between multiple potential energy surfaces. Elucidating the complex reactions of polyatomic molecules is one of the most important tasks of theoretical and experimental studies of chemical dynamics. This paper describes our recent experimen...
متن کاملReadthrough acetylcholinesterase: a multifaceted inducer of stress reactions.
Stress insults induce hyperexcitation of cholinergic circuits, both peripherally in the sympathetic pathway (Tracey, 2002) and at the central nervous system (CNS) (Sapolsky, 1996). This reaction can serve to ensure survival but might also entail a risk to the hyperactivated neurons. Consequent changes in the expression of a series of proteins related to acetylcholine (ACh) metabolism might prot...
