“Monster VIPs”: disaster preparedness training for children with intellectual disabilities

Disaster resilience is vital to everyone, including people with disabilities. However, teaching disabilities requires special techniques, and there scant literature in the area. This case study designs implements disaster preparedness training at a school for children intellectual Padang, Indonesia, an area prone earthquakes tsunamis. The utilizes blended learning approach called ‘Monster VIPs’ that combines various methods such as storytelling, posters, videos, puzzles, simulations facilitate students understand disasters responses. involves university teachers volunteers (Taruna Siaga Bencana/TAGANA) of city’s social services.
