Modeling of Possible Plume Mechanisms on Europa
نویسندگان
چکیده
Plumes spewing water high above Europa's surface have been inferred from several observation campaigns in the past decade. Whereas occasional existence of plumes on Europa has thus confirmed, origin remains uncertain. Most notably, it is still unclear whether are oceanic origin, possibly containing information about ocean's habitability, or if they surficial nature, offering highly processed instead. In this study, we use a Monte-Carlo model to analyze three different plume models, two which (near-surface liquid inclusion and diapir), one originates sub-surface ocean (oceanic plume). We all relevant Lyman- OI 1304 emission mechanisms determine models' profiles. These profiles then compared Hubble Space Telescope/Space Telescope Imaging Spectograph measurements presented by Roth, Saur, et al. (2014, https://doi.org/10.1126/science.1247051) with goal determining ab initio fits these best. Our analyses show that models investigated produce similar 130.4 nm profiles, differences being perceivable only scales well below HST resolution sensitivity. Since none contradict observations, them can be ruled out as acting force behind observed plumes. The currently available optical not sufficient physical nature plumes, identification achieved through higher images situ measurements.

Hydrothermal Plume Dynamics on Europa: Implications for Chaos Formation
Hydrothermal plumes may be responsible for transmitting tidally-generated heat from Europa’s rocky interior through a liquid ocean to the base of its ice shell. This process has been implicated in the formation of chaos regions and lenticulae by melting or exciting convection in the ice layer. In contrast to earlier work, we argue that Europa’s ocean should be treated as an unstratified fluid. ...
متن کاملModeling Surface Stresses on Europa
Introduction: Modeling of the surface stresses on Europa has been performed to date, considering tidal, nonsynchronous, and polar wander sources of stress [3-6]. The results of such models can be used to match lineament orientation with the candidate stress patterns. Moreover, stratigraphic analysis can be used in combination with stress modeling to infer the evolution of Europa’s surface back ...
متن کاملPossible ecosystems and the search for life on Europa.
N broadly accepted definition of life exists. Most proposed definitions (1–5) face severe objections (3, 6, 7). Nevertheless, one working definition of life has become influential in the originsof-life community: ‘‘life is a self-sustained chemical system capable of undergoing Darwinian evolution’’ (8). The notion that ‘‘the origin of life is the same as the origin of evolution’’ is a popular c...
متن کاملO-1: Thraputic Effect of Silymarin, Celecoxib and Exogenous Testosterone on Varicocele-Induced Disorders; Possible Mechanisms
Background Varicocele (VCL) is characterized by a progressive disorder which is defined by tortuosity of the pampiniform plexus veins that exerts bilateral impacts. 50-60 percent of males with infertility problems are suffering from VCL. Considering VCL-induced massive problems in human fertilizing potential, investigating different aspects of VCL-induced derangements is gaining considerable at...
