Mitigating Intergroup Conflict: Effectiveness of Qualifying Subjective Justice Views as an Intervention Technique in Comparison to Empathy Induction

Abstract Intergroup conflicts can be triggered and perpetuated by collective perceptions of injustice. In two experiments, we applied the qualifying subjective justice views, a justice-focused intervention initially introduced to resolve interpersonal conflicts, evaluated whether it mitigate intergroup conflicts. This included explicating opposing perceptions, explaining dilemma structure emphasizing that each conflict party applies different standards in situations. realistic setting, among advantaged group members, enhanced willingness pay monetary concessions out-group. effect was mediated through an understanding (Study 2) legitimacy judgments out-group’s claim (Studies 1 2). Furthermore, effects were compared those empathy induction as benchmark evaluate effectiveness. The comparison provided additional evidence for effectiveness
