Mesh Refinement Strategies for Solving Singularly Perturbed Reaction-Diffusion Problems
we consider the numerical approximation of a singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion problem over a square. Two different. approaches are compared namely: adaptive isotropic mesh refinement and anisotropic mesh refinement. Thus, we compare the h-refinement and the Shishkin mesh approaches numerically with PLTMG software [l]. It is shown how isotropic elements lead to over-refinement. and how an...
متن کاملNumerical analysis of singularly perturbed nonlinear reaction-diffusion problems
Semilinear reaction-diffusion two-point boundary value problems with multiple solutions are considered. Here the second-order derivative is multiplied by a small positive parameter and consequently these solutions can have boundary or interior layers. A survey is given of the results obtained in our recent investigations into the numerical solution of these problems on layer-adapted meshes.
متن کاملA New Method for Solving Singularly Perturbed Boundary Value Problems
In this paper, a new initial value method for solving a class of nonlinear singularly perturbed boundary value problems with a boundary layer at one end is proposed. The method is designed for the practicing engineer or applied mathematician who needs a practical tool for these problems (easy to use, modest problem preparation and ready computer implementation). Using singular perturbation anal...
متن کاملNumerische Simulation Auf Massiv Parallelen Rechnern Anisotropic Mesh Reenement for Singularly Perturbed Reaction Diiusion Problems
The paper is concerned with the nite element resolution of layers appearing in singularly perturbed problems. A special anisotropic grid of Shishkin type is constructed for reaction diiusion problems. Estimates of the nite element error in the energy norm are derived for two methods, namely the standard Galerkin method and a stabilized Galerkin method. The estimates are uniformly valid with res...
متن کاملNitsche-mortaring for singularly perturbed convection-diffusion problems
A finite element method for a singularly perturbed convection-diffusion problem with exponential boundary layers is analysed. Using a mortaring technique we combine an anisotropic triangulation of the layer region (into rectangles) with a shape regular one of the remainder of the domain. This results in a possibly non-matching (and hybrid), but layer adapted mesh of Shishkin type. We study the ...
