Membrane bioreactor (MBR) performance in fish canning industrial wastewater treatment

Abstract The fish canning industries produce a large amount of wastewater. high-strength wastewater from processing industry is great concern worldwide. This type rich in organic matter and has high total dissolved solids (TDS). elimination salts usually expensive and, on the other hand, salinity seasonal variation effluent characteristics make removal difficult using only biological process. For this purpose, use membrane bioreactor (MBR) process combining both treatment ultrafiltration separation could be perfect option for treatment. In work, performance MBR investigated to treat efficiency important parameters such as chemical oxygen demand (COD), five day-biological (BOD5), suspended (TSS), nitrate (NO3−), Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), orthophosphate (PO43−) TDS are followed. Experimental results show that overall efficiencies obtained are: 96.6% COD, 98% BOD, 99.5% TSS, 90% nitrate, 96% greater than 97% TKN PO43−. These confirm combination regarded an effective approach reduce contaminants Membrane presents several advantages terms water resource protection because quality treated can reused.
