چکیده

Southern leaf blight (SLB) is one of the major diseases that cause substantial yield losses in maize (Zea mays L.) worldwide. Stacking broad-spectrum resistance genes/QTLs into prevalent cultivars prerequisite for durable disease breeding programme. Therefore, a study was carried at research farm and molecular biology laboratory School Agricultural Biotechnology, Punjab University, Ludhiana, during 2017–21 to introgress SLB QTLs from two donors, viz. CM139 (qSLB3.1) LM5 (qSLB8.1) CM140 inbred using marker-assisted backcross (MABB). Crosses were made between × generate separate F1s. Each F1 backcrossed twice BC2F1 progenies. Foreground selection performed each step linked flanking markers QTL also evaluated resistance. The selected heterozygous plants cross inter-crossed combine qSLB3.1 qSLB8.1 same genetic background. F2 population phenotypically other morphological traits. A total 18 obtained having both with homozygous donor alleles. singly state advanced F3 pyramided lines exhibited 29% lesser severity than either QTL. present results indicated additive effects played an important role among these lines. To our best knowledge, this first report pyramiding associated would serve as potential donors programs.

Analysis of Digenic Epistatic and QTL × Environment Interactions for Resistance to Banded Leaf and Sheath Blight in Maize (Zea mays)

Maize banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) due to Rhizoctonia solani Kühn, is an increasing problem in maize production areas, particularly in China and Southeast of Asian. A genetic map containing 146 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and 229 F2 plants derived from the cross R 15 (resistant) × Ye 478 (susceptible) were used in this study. QTL were characterized in a population of 229 F2:4 l...

Non-destructive leaf area measurement in maize (Zea mays L.).

In this research, leaf area prediction model was developed for some leaf-used maize (Zea mays L.) cultivars namely Coluna, Luce, Maveric, Ranchero, TTM-813, Zamora and RX-788 grown in Black Sea region of Turkey. Lamina width, length and leaf area were measured without destroying the leaf to develop the models. The actual leaf areas of the plants were measured by PLACOM Digital Planimeter and mu...

Use of Ipm in the Control of Multiple Diseases in Maize: Strategies for Selection of Host Resistance

Maize (Zea mays) production in sub-Saharan Africa is constantly threatened by the potential outbreak of multiple foliar diseases such as maize streak, northern leaf blight, gray leaf spot, and rust. Improvement of host resistance to these diseases can provide an important component of integrated pest management (IPM). In this paper, conventional and molecular marker-assisted breeding approaches...

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Epistasis in Maize (zea Mays

ISHER (1918) provided a framework for the characterization of genotypic variance whereby he partitioned it into three components: ( 1 ) a portion associated with the average effects of genes, (2) a portion associated with dominance effects (allelic interactions) of genes, and (3) a portion associated with epistatic effects (nonallelic interactions) of genes. A logical method for the further sub...
