Low-Speed DSMC Simulations of Hotwire Anemometers at High-Altitude Conditions

چکیده

Numerical simulations of hotwire anemometers in low-speed, high-altitude conditions have been carried out using the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. Hotwire instruments are commonly used for in-situ turbulence measurements because their ability to obtain high spatial and temporal resolution data. Fast time responses achieved by wires having small diameters (1–5 ?m). currently being make (20–40 km). At these altitudes, hotwires experience Knudsen number values that lie transition-regime between slip-flow free-molecular flow. This article expands current knowledge investigating behavior transition-regime. Challenges involved with simulating at low Reynolds discussed. The DSMC method simulate from regimes is demonstrated. Dependence heat transfer on surface accommodation coefficient explored Simulation results Nusselt dependence show good agreement experimental Magnitude discrepancies attributed differences conditions, while trend finite domain size.

Helicopter pilot scan techniques during low-altitude high-speed flight.

INTRODUCTION This study examined pilots' visual scan patterns during a simulated high-speed, low-level flight and how their scan rates related to flight performance. As helicopters become faster and more agile, pilots are expected to navigate at low altitudes while traveling at high speeds. A pilot's ability to interpret information from a combination of visual sources determines not only missi...

Foraging at the edge of the world: low-altitude, high-speed manoeuvering in barn swallows.

While prior studies of swallow manoeuvering have focused on slow-speed flight and obstacle avoidance in still air, swallows survive by foraging at high speeds in windy environments. Recent advances in field-portable, high-speed video systems, coupled with precise anemometry, permit measures of high-speed aerial performance of birds in a natural state. We undertook the present study to test: (i)...

Adaptation of iron requirement to hypoxic conditions at high altitude.

Adequate acclimatization time to enable adjustment to hypoxic conditions is one of the most important aspects for mountaineers ascending to high altitude. Accordingly, most reviews emphasize mechanisms that cope with reduced oxygen supply. However, during sojourns to high altitude adjustment to elevated iron demand is equally critical. Thus in this review we focus on the interaction between oxy...

High-Quality Tungsten Films by Hotwire-Assisted CVD/ALD at Low Temperature

There is a growing interest in atomic layer deposition (ALD) of metals for ultra-large-scale integrated circuit (ULSIC) manufacturing. Radical-enhanced ALD (REALD) utilizing plasma (PEALD) has been proposed to grow a number of metals [1]. In our work, we investigate an alternative approach to REALD without plasma, i.e. replacing plasma by a hot (up to 2000 oC) tungsten (W) wire. In this so-call...

Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis Masquerading as High Altitude Cerebral Edema at Extreme Altitude

Introduction: Extreme altitude travel has gained popularity globally for adventurous, scientific, and military endeavors. Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) at extreme altitude is a rare, covert, and emergent condition requiring immediate intervention. Case Presentation: A case of CVST masqueraded as high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) at 6700 m/22000 ft i...
