Ladle Nozzle Clogging in Vacuum Induction Melting Gas Atomization: Influence of the Melt Viscosity

نویسندگان

چکیده

During the production of fine metal powder using vacuum induction melting gas atomization (VIGA) technology, problem nozzle clogging is often encountered. The viscosity melt one key factors causing nozzle. To visualize mechanism nozzle, volume fluid (VOF) model combined with large eddy turbulence was used to simulate nozzle-clogging process an alloy in primary zone. results show that, increase viscosity, flow rate delivery-tube decreased, heat dissipation increased, and crushing resistance increased. In addition, that not broken time hanged at tip delivery-tube, resulted nozzle-clogging. simulation were also verified by experiments. When 5.24–5.45 mPa s, continuous, particle size distribution uniform, yield high. However, when continued decrease, a larger mass had opposite effect, particles became coarser. This research guiding significance for understanding continuity VIGA technology.

Vacuum Induction Melting

MELTING UNDER VACUUM in an induction-heated crucible is a tried and tested process in the production of liquid metal. It has its origins in the middle of the 19th century, but the actual technical breakthrough occurred in the second half of the 20th century. Commercial vacuum induction melting (VIM) was developed in the early 1950s, having been stimulated by the need to produce superalloys cont...

Tundish Nozzle Clogging – Application of Computational Models

Clogging of the tundish nozzle is a major castability problem in continuous casting of steel for several reasons. Firstly, clogging increases the frequency of operation disruptions to change nozzles or tundishes or even to stop casting. These extra transitions increase operating cost, decrease productivity, and lower quality. Secondly, clogging can lead directly to a variety of quality problems...

Improvement of Cleanness in Melt of Tool Steel by Control of Gas Bubbles And Electromagnetic stirring in the ladle during vacuum treatment

The first part of the project is mainly about changing of slag compositions and see it affect on the inclusions in the ladle furnace. The second part of the project is to study the influence of stirring (EMGAS) on the large inclusions in the steel by changing stirring conditions. The project has done at Uddeholm AB, Hagfors. First, the scrap is melted in ARC furnace then moved to the ladle de-s...

Atomization Uniformity in Gas -

There are two important aspects to good injector performance in rocket engines—the atomization performance (droplet size and distribution, for example) and uniformity of operation (even distribution of droplets in time and space). In general, both of these aspects are affected by the geometry and operating conditions of the injector. In studying atomization performance, prior work has largely f...

ON THE VISCOSITY OF NATURAL GAS

The existing measuremenJs of the viscosity of gaseous systems can be extended if use is made of statistical mechanics. In this work, we confine ourselves to the measurements of the viscosity of multicomponent mixtures of low-density gases. The method is applied to one sample of natural gas.
