Knowledge sharing in online smoking cessation communities: a social capital perspective

Purpose Although knowledge sharing in online communities has been studied for many years, little is known about the determinants individuals' health (OHCs) surrounding smoking cessation. Examining of such OHCs from social capital perspective may prove particularly enlightening. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire-based user survey two cessation OHCs, one based Finland and China, was performed. Performing data analysis with partial least squares (SmartPLS 3.0), authors developed a model conceptualizing structural, cognitive relational dimensions as drivers users' stage giving up moderator. Findings The results show that structural (social ties) (reciprocity) are important motivators behind found moderating effect quitting on antecedents' relationship these OHCs. Originality/value study enriches understanding contributing to theory identifying practical implications groups' administration.
