Introducing Video-Recorded Lab Experiments into Assignments for Surface and Colloid Chemistry Students

This communication describes our initial experience modifying traditional (written and calculation-based) assignments in the surface colloid chemistry course given as a part of chemical engineering program. The new exercises contain more relatable context that is easier to understand remember terms future challenges student’s professional career. These modified deepen level exercise by adding working principle measurement visualization lab experiment, instead simply requiring student solve set problems. All videos were made edited using in-house instrumentation easily accessible tools (tripods, mobile phones, etc.). Analysis result these showed average score was slightly below means for other exercises; interestingly, however, students needed fewer attempts these, which possibly sign better understanding questions. Furthermore, through postassignment survey, we found many had positive attitude toward this form introducing and, general, them engaging. Still, some comments pointed out few shortcomings type exercises, will be considered while continuously improving existing formulating ones. Overall, encouraged feedback, plan continue content approach consider use prepared videos, example, instrument training purposes or promotional materials research group.
