Abstract In this paper, we explore the relationship between inflation and unemployment in a monetary Schumpeterian growth model. Under cash‐in‐advance (CIA) constraint on research development (R&D), higher reduces innovation increases unemployment. CIA consumption, also but decreases instead. Therefore, two constraints imply drastically different relationships This theoretical result is consistent with our empirical finding, it provides plausible explanation for mixed results literature.
