Hypoxia and hypercapnia effects on cerebral oxygen saturation in avalanche burial: A pilot human experimental study

چکیده

BackgroundA sufficient supply of oxygen is crucial to avoid hypoxic cardiac arrest and brain damage within 30 min in completely-buried avalanche victims. Snow density influences levels hypoxia hypercapnia. The goal this study was investigate the effects hypercapnia on cerebral oxygenation (ScO2) humans breathing into an artificial air pocket.MethodsEach subject breathed a closed system (air-tight face mask – plastic tube snow air-pocket 4 L) up min. Each performed three tests different densities. ScO2 measured by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) device. Measurements included peripheral saturation (SpO2), end-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2), pocket gases blood gases. assessed via standard methods micro-computed tomography. Based predetermined criteria, were classified based whether they terminated before reason for termination. categories were: completed (30 min), when SpO2 dropped ?75% that requests subjects. General linear models used compare termination groups changes ScO2, ETCO2, gases, multivariate analysis detect factor independent ScO2.ResultsScO2 decreased group which ? 75% caused decrease high In tests, increase occurred despite removal.ConclusionsOur data show determined NIRS not always impaired removal. This may indicate medium low densities can be sufficient, reflect initial stage triple H (hypothermia, hypoxia, hypercapnia) syndrome. densities, showed significant critical supply. could lead higher risk damage.

Evaluation of MR-derived cerebral oxygen metabolic index in experimental hyperoxic hypercapnia, hypoxia, and ischemia.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE A noninvasive MRI method to measure cerebral oxygen metabolism has the potential to assess tissue viability during cerebral ischemia. The purposes of this study were to validate MR oxygenation measurements across a wide range of global cerebral oxygenation and to examine the spatiotemporal evolution of oxygen metabolism during focal middle cerebral artery occlusion in rat...

Effect of hyperoxia, hypercapnia, and hypoxia on cerebral interstitial oxygen tension and cerebral blood flow.

The assessment of cerebral interstitial oxygen tension (piO(2)) can provide valuable information regarding cerebrovascular physiology and brain function. Compartment-specific cerebral piO(2) was measured by (19)F NMR following the infusion of an oxygen-sensitive perfluorocarbon directly into the interstitial and ventricular space of the in vivo rat brain. (19)F T(1) measurements were made and c...

a study on rate making and required reserves determination in reinsurance market: a simulation

reinsurance is widely recognized as an important instrument in the capital management of an insurance company as well as its risk management tool. this thesis is intended to determine premium rates for different types of reinsurance policies. also, given the fact that the reinsurance coverage of every company depends upon its reserves, so different types of reserves and the method of their calc...

effects of hypoxia and hypercapnia on human hrv and respiratory sinus arrhythmia

purpose: hypercapnia increases minute ventilation (v’e) with little effect on heart rate (hr), whereas hypoxia may increase hr without affecting v’e. however, the effects of hypercapnia and hypoxia on both heart rate variability (hrv) and the clustering of heart beats during spontaneous breathing (respiratory sinus arrhythmia – rsa), are not clear. methods: in this study, 10 human volunteers br...

Cerebral hypercapnia-induced vasomotor reactivity in migraine with and without aura: a case-control study

Abstract Background: Dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system has long been a subject of considerable debate and a large number of studies have disclosed contradictory results. The aim of this study was to compare cerebral vasomotor reactivity in migraine with aura (MWA) patients with migraine without aura (MWO) ones. Methods: Ten MWA patients (7 females and 3 males mean age: 39.70 years, S...
