Generic Seebeck effect from spin entropy

چکیده

How magnetism affects the Seebeck effect is an important issue widely concerned in thermoelectric community yet remaining elusive. Based on a thermodynamic analysis of spin degrees freedom varied $d$-electron based ferro- and anti-ferromagnets, we demonstrate that itinerant or partially magnetic compounds there exists generic contribution to over extended temperature range from slightly below well above transition temperature. This interpreted as resulting transport entropy (partially) delocalized conducting $d$ electrons with strong thermal fluctuations, even semiquantitatively single-band case, addition conventional diffusion part arising their kinetic freedom. As highly effect, spin-dependent might pave feasible way efficient "magnetic thermoelectrics".

Antiferromagnetic Spin Seebeck Effect.

We report on the observation of the spin Seebeck effect in antiferromagnetic MnF_{2}. A device scale on-chip heater is deposited on a bilayer of MnF_{2} (110) (30  nm)/Pt (4 nm) grown by molecular beam epitaxy on a MgF_{2} (110) substrate. Using Pt as a spin detector layer, it is possible to measure the thermally generated spin current from MnF_{2} through the inverse spin Hall effect. The low ...

Intrinsic spin Seebeck effect in Au/YIG.

The acute magnetic proximity effects in Pt/YIG compromise the suitability of Pt as a spin current detector. We show that Au/YIG, with no anomalous Hall effect and a negligible magnetoresistance, allows the measurements of the intrinsic spin Seebeck effect with a magnitude much smaller than that in Pt/YIG. The experiment results are consistent with the spin polarized density functional calculati...

Length Scale of the Spin Seebeck Effect.

We investigate the origin of the spin Seebeck effect in yttrium iron garnet (YIG) samples for film thicknesses from 20 nm to 50  μm at room temperature and 50 K. Our results reveal a characteristic increase of the longitudinal spin Seebeck effect amplitude with the thickness of the insulating ferrimagnetic YIG, which levels off at a critical thickness that increases with decreasing temperature....

Longitudinal spin Seebeck effect contribution in transverse spin Seebeck effect experiments in Pt/YIG and Pt/NFO

The spin Seebeck effect, the generation of a spin current by a temperature gradient, has attracted great attention, but the interplay over a millimetre range along a thin ferromagnetic film as well as unintended side effects which hinder an unambiguous detection have evoked controversial discussions. Here, we investigate the inverse spin Hall voltage of a 10 nm thin Pt strip deposited on the ma...
