چکیده
Abstract Post-harvest losses are a significant problem worldwide, leading to waste of resources when they becoming scarcer. Rather than putting more energy into increasing production volume, addressing post-harvest can increase food availability without yields. Using maize in Ethiopia introduce gendering loss research, we analyze the gendered division labor management and then discuss implications. The study was conducted from 2014–2015 southwestern as part broader research project 2013–2018. Semi-structured interviews were with 208 male female farmer heads household. Our results show that although activities deemed be responsibility women, overall after harvest requires cooperation all household members. For example, both women men contribute time-sensitive harvest, packing de-husking activities. Men tend have for ensuring is stored well. Critically, sell small quantities pay everyday expenses including purchasing other foods diversify diets. Often recommendations literature reduce include building processing centers formalizing supply chain. However, shown this women’s role decide which consume home important access quality food. Without it possible gender harms enacted livelihoods impacted process reducing losses, may compromise security.

Harvest and Post-harvest Operations
Harvest and post-harvest operations constitute principal constraints to rice production, especially in irrigated systems, because of the larger yield that has to be handled. Post-harvest crop losses of up to 35% have been reported and attributed to inefficiency of manual threshing of rice by small-scale farmers. This leads to poor grain quality and rejection of locally produced rice. The Africa...
متن کاملDelivery systems for biological control agents to manage aflatoxin contamination of pre-harvest maize.
While soil application of a competitive non-toxigenic Aspergillus flavus strains is successful in reducing aflatoxin contamination in certain crops, direct application to aerial reproductive structures could be more effective for maize. A sprayable, clay-based water-dispersible granule formulation was developed to deliver non-toxigenic A. flavus strain K49 directly to maize ears. The efficacy o...

To test the hypothesis that fatigue and fainting occur together, 1,047 polio survivors and 419 non-disabled control subjects were asked about the frequency and cause of fainting and asked to rate their typical daily fatigue severity. Fatigue severity was significantly higher in polio survivors as compared to controls, and in both polio survivors and controls who had fainted, as compared to thos...
متن کاملOccurrence of Pre- and Post-Harvest Mycotoxins and Other Secondary Metabolites in Danish Maize Silage
Maize silage is a widely used feed product for cattle worldwide, which may be contaminated with mycotoxins, pre- and post-harvest. This concerns both farmers and consumers. To assess the exposure of Danish cattle to mycotoxins from maize silage, 99 samples of whole-crop maize (ensiled and un-ensiled) were analyzed for their contents of 27 mycotoxins and other secondary fungal metabolites by liq...
متن کاملMicrobial Degradation of Post-harvest Residues
MANAGEMENT of post-harvest residues, produced during the green-cane harvesting of sugarcane in Louisiana, has become an increasingly important issue for producers, particularly in areas where burning of the residues is banned or restricted. If the residues, which range from 48 tonnes per hectare, are not removed prior to the emergence of the subsequent ratoon crop in the spring, yields may be ...
