Experimental Study on Fire Suppression of the Outdoor Oil-Immersed Transformer by High-Pressure Water Mist System

Fire accidents due to oil-immersed transformers seriously threaten the safe operation of power systems. In this paper, similarity principle was used design a high-pressure water mist fire-extinguishing test platform for small-scale transformer fire, and method achieved good fire extinguishing effect. The results indicate that deflagration phenomenon, lasting about 2–4 s, could be observed after activating system; flame temperature rose rapidly at first, then dropped sharply, finally cooled indoor temperature. nozzle’s flow rate in system has significant impact on time. Meanwhile, adjustment upper nozzle height also influenced suppression effectiveness system, where 1800 mm best performance compared others. addition, ambient wind speed is very unfavorable factor suppression, efficiency decreases with increase speed. Therefore, under low conditions, great advantages outdoor transformers, above research can provide reference optimization system.
