Effect of soil permeability on soil–structure and structure–soil–structure interaction of low-rise structures

چکیده
Earthquake-induced soil liquefaction can generate excessive damage to building structures due significant reduction in effective stress. With increasing urbanisation and population growth, the performance of closely spaced buildings, such as those towns cities, is greater concern where structure–soil–structure interaction (SSSI) may occur conjunction with full or partial liquefaction. This study investigates seismic isolated adjacent built on shallow foundations soils different permeability (i.e. amounts drainage therefore generating excess pore water pressure) using a combination dynamic centrifuge modelling finite-element modelling. The results demonstrate that free-field ground surface intensity measure (specifically, Housner intensity) be correlated an index which normalised integral pressure ratio (r u ) depth. express amount uniquely, even when occurs only depth, pressures are increased but below level at all depths. underlying correlation means structural demand (e.g. inter-storey drift ratio) (SSI effect) linked either: (a) r –depth index; (b) depth front, estimated from triggering analysis; (c) amplification/attenuation free field one-dimensional column analyses. Where there structures, strongly beneficial SSSI effect co-seismic settlement detrimental non-liquefied soil, observed this previous studies, reduced towards null both cases liquefaction, appearing isolate each other (at least for configuration considered herein). has also been motion (or liquefaction) simple indicator likely importance effects liquefiable soil.
