Determination of classification of red chili production area in North Sumatra Province

Abstract One of the agricultural subsectors that has smallest growth is horticultural. The horticultural subsector dominated by vegetables and mainly comes from red chili. North Sumatra one biggest chili productions in Indonesia, so it a strategic role. However, amount production tends to decrease every year. This study aims determine various classifications for areas Province. determination classification this area carried out using secondary data 23 commodities at provincial district levels. uses 3 stages analysis. Stage 1 SLQ method base area. Then, stage 2, DLQ centres. Finally, 3, based on values, criteria district-based are determined be superior, prospective, mainstay, underdevelop areas. results showed 5 districts superior development Sumatra. include Batubara, Dairi, Simalungun, Mandailing Natal Langkat. condition means these comparative advantage now future compared other commodities.
