Design Optimization of Hot Isostatic Pressing Capsules

Power metallurgy hot isostatic pressing (PM-HIP) is a manufacturing technique capable of producing net shape or near-net components with complicated geometries from materials that are difficult to melt and cast, mechanically deform weld. However, the process soundness outcome extremely sensitive geometric design capsule (also known as die can) used in process. The for each new component involves several trial–error iterations achieve desired geometry component. For iteration, costly HIP experiments need be conducted capsules manufactured small modifications. In this study, robust finite element analysis (FEA) model developed, then wrapped multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) optimization framework obtain optimal pre-HIP design, which yields post-HIP one run. FEA-based validated by experiments, showing excellent agreement between experiment model.
