Deriving potential evapotranspiration from satellite-based reference evapotranspiration, Upper Tekeze Basin, Northern Ethiopia

چکیده
Zamra catchment, Upper Tekeze Basin, Northern Ethiopia. Direct field estimates of potential evapotranspiration (PET) remain a challenge, because they are expensive and have limited spatial representativeness. An alternative is to derive PET by remote sensing as product reference (ETo) land use-land cover (LULC) factor (Kc). The aims this study were to: i) validate satellite-derived Daily Reference Evapotranspiration (DMETREF-ETos); ii) correct the advection-bias DMETREF-ETos compared in-situ FAO Penman-Monteith ETo (FAO-ETog); iii) convert bias-corrected into PET. Four ATMOS 41 weather stations installed 1-year daily data was used DMETREF-ETos. wet season actual from Water Productivity Open-access portal (WaPOR) Evaluation showed large underestimation biases when FAO-ETog derived stations, particularly in warm conditions, due unaccounted advection-bias. bias correction performed function near-surface air temperature obtained ERA5-Land, merged with temperature; results substantial improvement ETo. Finally, estimated multiplying corrected spatio-temporally variable Kc, defined linearly dependent on NDVI Sentinel 2. This emphasized difference between PET, implying that cannot substitute which many hydrological studies still common practice.

متن کاملSpatiotemporal Variations of Reference Crop Evapotranspiration in Northern Xinjiang, China
To set up a reasonable crop irrigation system in the context of global climate change in Northern Xinjiang, China, reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0) was analyzed by means of spatiotemporal variations. The ET0 values from 1962 to 2010 were calculated by Penman-Monteith formula, based on meteorological data of 22 meteorological observation stations in the study area. The spatiotemporal vari...

Assessing interannual variability of evapotranspiration at the catchment scale using satellite‐based evapotranspiration data sets
[1] The catchment water‐energy balance at the interannual scale remains a challenge for bridging the important gap in our knowledge of the hydrologic cycle. This study investigates interannual evapotranspiration (ET) variability and water‐energy balance at over 547 catchments across the contiguous United States in different climate zones. The investigation is based on ET data estimated from sat...
متن کاملMonitoring Cotton Crop Evapotranspiration Based On Satellite Data
The water demand to meet seasonal and long-term water needs in Thessaly, central Greece, is related to historical semi-arid conditions in the region, which is the main agricultural area of the country. In this paper irrigation water requirements are assessed through the estimation and monitoring of crop evapotranspiration ETc for cotton fields in Thessaly. Remotely sensed data are used to delin...
