Charcoal hemoperfusion for phenytoin intoxication.
Accidental ingestion of phenytoin can lead to severe neurological sequelae. Charcoal hemoperfusion decreases phenytoin levels but has never been reported before in children. We present a child with accidental ingestion of phenytoin who responded to charcoal hemoperfusion.
متن کاملUltrafiltration studies in vitro of serum aluminum in dialysis patients after deferoxamine chelation therapy.
Using gel filtration chromatography, we evaluated aluminum bound to albumin, transferrin, and other plasma proteins in the serum of patients on maintenance hemodialysis. The proportion of dialyzable aluminum, as determined by selective membrane ultrafiltration and flameless atomic absorption spectrometry, increased by more than fourfold on treatment with the metal chelator, deferoxamine. This u...
متن کاملComparative Analysis of Serum Levels of Aluminum and Lead in Dialysis Patients, Pre and post Dialysis
Background: Accumulation or deficiency of trace elements can occur in hemodialysis patients and it increases risk of cardiovascular or other organs disorders. Special ions levels such as sodium and bicarbonate in dialysis fluid are accurately regulated but the remaining elements are not regularly measured. Aluminum and lead belong to the biologic performance free heavy metals .They also has a t...
متن کاملHigher efficacy of direct hemoperfusion using coated activated-charcoal column for disopyramide poisoning
RATIONALE Cases of severe disopyramide poisoning are rare and few have been reported. We report a case in which activated-charcoal column hemoperfusion was dramatically effective for life-threatening disopyramide poisoning. PATIENT CONCERNS A teenage girl who had overdosed on disopyramide (total dose, 4950 mg) was brought to our hospital. She was resuscitated from short period cardiopulmonary...
متن کاملBasic study of polyetherurethane coated bead-type activated charcoal for direct hemoperfusion.
A new type of activated charcoal for the direct hemoperfusion (DHP) has been developed for use in treatment of fulminant hepatic failure. Bead-type activated charcoal from petroleum pitch (BAC) was coated with polyetherurethane. The coating has permitted the charcoal to minimize the number of released microparticles and yet to show nearly the same adsorption performance as that of the non-coate...
