چکیده

Introduction: biofilm-related infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsi-ella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are difficult to treat few effective pharmacological options currently available for this purpose. In context, coumarin (2H-1-Benzopyran-2-one) has been reported have antibacterial antibiofilm activity, but potential remains poorly understood. Aim: investi-gate the action of on planktonic biofilm forms S. K. pneu-moniae P. aeruginosa. Results: a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranging from 256 1024 μg/mL was observed, with remarkable ability inhibit formation biofilms act mature in concentrations close MIC. Conclusion: strong activity against three species great relevance clinical scenario. These results interesting enable alternative treatment these infections.

Background: The development of resistance to antimicrobial agents is a major problem in chemotherapy. Finding agents which potentiate antimicrobial activity could be favorable. There are some reports that methylxanthines changed the inhibitory effect of antibacterial agents. Thus, possible synergistic effect of methylxanthines, aminophylline and caffeine on some antibiotics, carbenicillin, ceft...

MDR microorganisms: Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter spp

In recent years, infections caused by multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens have become a serious problem, especially in the nosocomial setting. Th e World Health Organization (WHO) has identifi ed antimicrobial resistance as one of the three most important problems for human health. Some authors have summarized this pheno menon with the word ‘ESKAPE’, to include the most frequent MDR microorgan...

The anti-biofilm effects of sponge (Callyspongia sp.) and two sea anemones (Zoanthus sansibaricus and Cerianthus lloydii) collected from the Persian Gulf

Background: Sponges and sea anemones do not have specialized defense organs. Instead, they rival harmful microorganisms by producing certain compounds. These compounds can also be useful against some human pathogens. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial effects of bioactive products from these marine animals. Methods: Two species of sea anemone <e...
