Intrinsic Viscosity Determination by “Single-Point” and “Double-Point” Equations
With rheology progress was made in understanding of structure of gels and colloidal suspensions, particularly with regard to polysaccharides and large glyconjugates. Whereas the rheology of concentrated dispersions is the considerable interest to the colloidal scientist, pharmacist or food technologist [1], of more interest to molecular biophysicist is dilute solution viscometry and the structu...

Data are presented to show that the intrinsic viscosity of hyaluronic acid elaborated into the culture medium supporting human connective-tissue cells in vitro is modulated in a systematic manner by the cells. Intrinsic viscosity is reduced during rapid cell division and by hydrocortisone treatment. Conversely, the initial lag phase of culture growth and colchicine t reatment are attended by fo...
متن کاملCorrect determination of abdominal fat accumulation.
Body composition determination with single slice computed tomography (CT) image analysis that was used in study by Lee at al. (1) has increasingly been popular. This modality relies on determination of lipid and muscle mass by quantitative analysis of predefined CT slice through attenuation value of tissues. In the current work, image analysis was performed at the level of umbilicus (between th...
متن کاملA simple model for the anomalous intrinsic viscosity of dendrimers
The intrinsic viscosity of dendrimers in solution shows several anomalous behaviors that have hitherto not been explained within the existing theoretical frameworks of either Zimm or Rouse. Here we propose a simple two-zone model based on the radial segmental density profile of the dendrimers and combine a non-draining core with a free-draining outer region description, to arrive at a simple fo...
متن کاملIntrinsic viscosity of SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2 aqueous suspensions.
The viscosity of dilute suspensions of several metal oxides (SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2) was measured at different pH values. The intrinsic viscosity, [eta], was derived from the concentration dependence of the viscosity. This magnitude was pH-dependent. A correlation with the shape of the kinetic unity has been proposed.
