Collimated versatile atomic beam source with alkali dispensers

Alkali metal dispensers have become an indispensable tool in the production of atomic vapors for magnetometry, alkali vapor cell clocks, and laser cooling experiments. A primary advantage these is that they contain inert form can be exposed to air without hazard. However, their high temperature operation (>600 C) undesirable many applications, as it shifts speed distribution higher values presents a radiative heat source raise its surroundings. For this reason, are typically not used line-of-sight applications such beam generation. In work, we present integrated rubidium dispenser collimating device with thickness only 2 mm produces atoms traveling primarily forward direction. We find collimator plate serves both shield dispenser's radiation well moderate velocity so measured longitudinal comparable ordinary oven at slightly elevated 200 C. To confirm our theory, also constructed another compact apparatus consisting silicon measurements support conclusion. Our will particularly useful photonics cavity QED on chip, where localized, directed Rb small quantities needed.
