CO <sub>2</sub> ‐to‐HCOOH Electrochemical Conversion on Nanostructured Cu <sub>x</sub> Pd <sub>100−x</sub> /Carbon Catalysts

Selective electrochemical conversion of CO2 to HCOOH is obtained at the surface a carbon-supported bimetallic cathode material composed copper and palladium nanoparticles. Polycrystalline or large particles are well-known catalyze reduction hydrocarbons relatively negative potentials, when their covered by oxides (Cu2O CuO). Cu-based materials modified various contents (0<×<100), were synthesized using microwave-assisted polyol method serve as in selective CO2-into-HCOOH transformation. Herein, we developed targeted preparation route toward metal content/catalytic activity relationship correlating atomic ratio with faradaic efficiency (FE) formate formation (ca. 60 % FE) −0.72 V vs. RHE, which represents 703 mV overpotential pH=7. Consequently, occurrence this reaction slows down parallel H2 production from solvent consumption, while neighboring Cu−Pd provides excellent good via hydridation molecule orientate rather than carbon monoxide evolution.
