Photoautotrophic growth and photosynthesis in tobacco callus cells.
Haploid tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) cell cultures derived from quite different cultivars have been grown photoautotrophically in medium lacking sucrose and with 1.6 mum naphthaleneacetic acid and 1.5 mum isopentenylaminopurine. Cells were grown for 5 months on agar medium in Petri plates in air with dry weight increases of 1.5- to 3-fold per month. Callus cells were also grown photoautotroph...
متن کاملChromosome Constitution of Some Indian Tea Clones
Resultant of large-scale spontaneous hybridization between Camellia taxa, the present day commercial tea clones are highly variable and heterozygous. It is in this context that thirty two UPASl and other tea clones were investigated with regard to comparative karyomorphology and meiotic pairing properties so as to ascertain the nature and extent of intra and interclonal differentiation. Barring...
متن کامل47,XXX chromosome constitution in a male.
An 18-year-old boy with a male phenotype was examined because of testicular hypoplasia. Chromosome analysis using Q- and R-banding techniques and BUdR treatment showed a 47,XXX karotype, in both lymphocytes and fibroblasts. Cytogenetic problems raised by this case are discussed in relation to data from previous published reports.
متن کاملCorrelation between polyamines and pyrrolidine alkaloids in developing tobacco callus.
Since the diamine putrescine can be metabolized into the pyrrolidine ring of tobacco alkaloids as well as into the higher polyamines, we have investigated the quantitative relationship between putrescine and these metabolites in tobacco callus cultured in vitro. We measured levels of free and conjugated putrescine and spermidine, and pyrrolidine alkaloids, as well as activities of the putresci...
متن کاملCarbohydrate-limited Growth Kinetics of Tobacco (Nicotiana rustica L.) Callus.
Logistic curves were fitted to sigmoidal growth data obtained from tobacco (Nicotiana rustica L.) callus grown on media prepared with 0.1, 0.03, 0.01, and 0.003 m sucrose. Analysis of the growth curves indicated that final yields and specific growth rates were influenced by the initial sucrose concentration. Growth yields from the four treatments were similar (0.61 +/- 0.04 gram dry tissue per ...
